New Features in Demo 2.5: Crew Mode and Input Assistance!

Major smash tournaments everywhere always provide excitement, hype, and most importantly, the chance to represent your own region. One of the most anticipated events at these tournaments would be none other than crew battles. Nothing generates more hype than having two crews go head-to-head against each other with their pride on the line. However, the constant suicides in between matches tend to slow down the excitement, so thanks to InternetExplorer, one of the PMBR's coders, Project M now presents Crew Mode!

Crew Mode automatically starts the next match with the remaining amount of stocks the winning player had. This cuts down the length of time in between matches to help ensure the hype remains constant! With Crew Mode also comes Stock Control, which allows players to manually set individual stock values before a match begins.

Set individual stock values via Stock control. My money's on the red team!

Simply switch the stock control to Crew Mode when beginning a crew battle, and after someone wins, the game will automatically set the appropriate amount of stocks.

...So all that's left to do is to choose your character and begin the next match!

We hope that this setting will encourage newer players to participate in crew battles at tournaments, and help ensure that veteran crew battlers will have a smoother experience!

Speaking of newer players, we understand that much of our audience who are used to the Brawl mechanics may need a tool to help become more accustomed to the Melee-esque engine. So again thanks to InternetExplorer, Project M now presents Input Assistance! This setting will turn on a 3-frame buffer to all players to help ease newcomers into Project M, giving a bit more leeway to learn many of the advanced techniques found in Melee that come with our modified engine.

Simply turn the setting on, and you're good to go!

Does this replace the buffer/handicap system from former versions? I've never done crew battles myself, but this should make them look much more natural. The other changes could really help for casual play by offering an actual handicap system and non-personal buffer feeling less like cheating.

Definitly an update I had not anticipated and from those screens it looks like it would/should have been in Brawl from the start. Great job!

MGS "!"

Well, this certainly sounds handy. Now I can do an "Ike vs the World" amongst my friends and see how long I can last. Very nice addition.

Looking for any Utah players to play with (although preferable in northern Utah but still). PM me if you wanna play plz Wink

Just curious, but what does internet explorer have anything to do with these changes? Why IE instead of any other browser?
Also, how does a three frame buffer help with inputs?

Great changes by the way. These updates are very welcome surprises.

It affects everyone. It's not exclusive to one player and cannot be adjusted on a per-player basis.

@Badge: It appears that Stock Control replaces Handicap (Brawl) and Buffer (PM), and Input Assist replaces Show Damage Gauges.

So I guess yeah, Buffer is being replaced by Input Assist. Someone confirm/deny?

Even after this I still can't get the local group into P:M, they say its too hard to change, to much work to setup, too hard to practice, inaccessible to random walk in people... I don't really understand it all, but they aren't exactly 'with' P:M.

Not like there's any tournies around here for anything cept brawl anyway...

but still, Hype, are there even limits to the engine? (obviously rhetorical question)
