This is just a minor irritation, but I've noticed that cancels tend to make Brawl Minus what it is, and if you don't know the cancels, you're at a pretty big disadvantage. So taking inspiration from the "Mario and Luigi" RPG series, I wondered, "Why not have characters flash a certain color to indicate the attack can be canceled?" It wouldn't be a dead giveaway as to what it can cancel into, but just a subtle little thing to make you explore different combinations of buttons to figure out how to cancel it; though if we were to use colors, I suppose purple could be for shield/grab cancel, grey could be for jump cancel, green for attack, red for special. And maybe it could extend to other things; like using yellow flashes to indicate super armor, light blue to indicate reflection. |

This would be an interesting idea, but let's keep in mind that there are a lot of cancels in this game, and that a lot of characters are essentially all out of file space. What's more, it'd start to look kinda garish after a while, dontcha think?

BPC, then it just comes down to this: What takes more time to implement? 1) Going into the nitty gritty ASM or whatever and making that graphic a default part of "Allow Interrupt" 2) Going into every character and adding a colour overlay for every cancel while abiding by file size limits. Not implying we'll actually do this, but just sparking minds. EDIT: And if we actually do it, might I suggest these colours? Full IASA: White Attacks: Green Specials: Red Shield: Gray Jump: Yellow Footstool: Brown uSmash: Blue UpB: Cyan Grab: Purple Am I missing any cancels? |

Option 3 of course is "Just don't bother", which I kind of feel is the most realistic for the team at this point.

Well then maybe a generous patron is willing to look into it!

Well as I said, it wouldn't be a dead giveaway as to what can be canceled. It'd be more of "If an attack can be canceled, the character will glow this color." I say this because of the possibility of overlapping cancels; like being able to interrupt an attack with both specials and aerials. The glow wouldn't indicate WHAT cancels the attack, just that it can be canceled. And if we're concerned about things looking garish, may I ask how the portraits don't look so? <_< |

A little silly is okay in Minus! Plus that's Xyless' work and we love Xyless. |

...I thought I knew all the cancels, but I can't think of things that cancel into up B (aside from shield) atm. What things cancel into up B?

@DarkRiku: It's not dead, but it's slow (maybe only comparably to P:M, but at this point P:M is more of a sequel than a mod) @BlackRain: Technically, it's JumpSquat that cancels into uSmash/UpB, but I was just pointing out any type of cancel, even if we never specifically added it in. To actually answer your question, Aerial Bullet Seed. |
