Any ideas of how to make Homing Attack suck less?

Sonic's nearly perfect in my eyes now. The primary move that still needs buffing however is Sonic's HA. It shouldn't be a kill move, but come on, in a game about being broken and having new techs, Sonic's ultra laggy HA just doesn't cut it. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make HA suck less? Seriously.

Also, Sonic's spring spikes more in Balanced Brawl than in Brawl-. This is insanity...

I said this a long time ago, but no one listened ;>_> Anywayz:

Remove the "rising slowly while preparing to home"-animation, and instead make it possible to preserve your current momentum while charging (if not on ground). If you touch the ground while charging, like if you used the attack when you were close to the ground, the attack will stop and autocancel. This does two things:

- Does not allow you to stall as effectively with the attack below the stage.
- Makes it more usable as a combo finisher.

Imagine hitting with d-smash, jumping out of it and start charging homing atack while still preserving momentum forward. Also, we could have it knock the same direction sonic is moving, making it one of his most effective combo-finishers (semispike? :V)

I believe the problem is that, if you speed up the "homing" stage, the game fails to lock on properly, and Sonic will instead launch himself towards the center of the stage. That's what I've heard, at least.

Making it lagless after the attack should be a given, though.

Don't forget, we can mess around with the floating points near his homing attack. Wink

_X_ is the best sonic in the world, he placed top 10 consistently in so-cal for the few months he was there.

if he says hes too broken then sonic is too broken.

How do you punish a homing attack, anyways?

An idea you could try is having his Homing attack work like it normally does, but if you hold the button, it allows him to return to the stage much easier.

In one version of Sonic I downloaded from BrawlVault, if you use homing attack, you can hold the button and it allows him to return to the center point of the stage from anywhere on the map (most of the time).

While this doesn't make Homing Attack stronger, it improves Sonic's hit-and-run game (which, let's not kid ourselves, is what Sonic should be about anyway).

Here's a link to that download if you want to see what I mean. It's actually a really good moveset once you figure out how it works.

In fact, I'd say this version of Sonic has a lot of improvements that put the Brawl-Minus Sonic to shame (no offense, but Full Throttle Sonic is just pure-awesome).

It's always like this. Someone gets an idea, there's a counterargument which is answered with a good insight, so everything seems ok...

...and then it just fades away.

I'm given yet another reason to get my hacking started up.

Not to deter you from starting hacking, Rkey, but if homing attack were made as fast as you suggest, then it would behave as described in Silver's post. If you speed it up too much, it homes in on the center of the stage instead of finding an opponent.

But I fail to see what is wrong with that. As I mentioned, Sonic is all about hitting targets and getting away before you can hit him back. Take Sonic vs. Bowser for example. In Minus, Sonic is terrible against Bowser because of his inability to knock the big-guy back easily. But with an ability to hit the target and get away quickly, he can rack up the damage even faster and that allows him to knock something like Bowser out (again, only as an example). A buff like this would easily play into Sonic's strengths.

You don't get it. Just remove the "stop all momentum and rise slowly", keep the charge time. If you touch the ground while charging, AC the attack. If you do it from the ground, keep it the same.

Ah, I see. But if it doesn't execute any faster, how does it become any better of a combo finisher?

@Silver: personally I'm real leery of giving Sonic an even better recovery... he'd be practically ungimpable.

I'm f*king tired of people being ungimpable in this game.

Just make it do a lot of shield damage, and spike.
