So I installed Brawl- 2.1.1 in the root of my SD card but when I launch the game through Gecko it doesn't seem to work. I get the SD Codes found and applying messages and the game loads up fine, but there's no indication that Brawl- is actually in effect.
What is going wrong here?

After seeing what the P:M team has done, it's obvious that complete construction of new characters is definitely possible. Seeing as there are already Alloy slots in certain brawl mods, could there be a plan for adding additional characters from other games?

I'd love to see 8-bit link with a movement style similar to G&W, or Banjo & Kazooiee.

It would definitely attract a lot of attention and could be beneficial for the overall health of the game. On the other side of the coin, however, it could make the game feel too artificial and push people away.

So I have a question, and this might not be the best place for it, in which case mods, go ahead and delete it and I apologize in advance.

What kind of backgrounds did you guys have before you started the code modding. Did you study CS in college, or did you pick it up on your own, or did you just do an insane amount of messing around with the various programs released by people in order to understand what you needed to do? The reason I'm asking is that I follow a lot of projects that mod various software and I never understand where people get their knowledge from.

Thanks!

Someone mentioned in a thread about Wolf giving him the ability to cancel Wolf Flash just by pressing the B button during the beginning of his animation rather than spamming B. This actually sounds like a pretty cool idea for all 3 of the Star Fox characters. It would give them a fake out option and it would be nice to simply press B to cancel their side B. So instead of having to press B as fast as you can and hope you cancel you could simply press B. Also if the spacies still keep their momentum from the Side B it could be used as an interesting recovery option especially for Falco since his up B doesn't go that far. Of course this might not even be possible but hey it was worth a try.

I softmodded my new Wii to play Brawl minus.
I did exactly, what was written in the Install guide and everything went better than expected, until I ran Gecko OS.
Gecko opened and i was full of anticipation for Brawl minus, BUT the only thing I saw, when I launched the game, was:

No SD codes found
Then the normal Brawl starts
What should I do?

Play-tester
1.	What region do you live in?
Southern California

2.	What smash tournament experience do you have?
I started tournaments from around mid 2010 when I moved to socal for college. I think I enter the most tournaments from my region although my skill doesn't really show it yet… (whenever there's a tournament, which is pretty much almost every weekend) Been to 2 nationals (Genesis 2 and Apex 2012)

3.	What other notable players do you frequently play with?
The most notable players I play with (in order of most frequently played) would have to be Baka4Moe, then Westballz, and then Stabbedbyanipple. And then lastly those I play in tournament (Lovage, Fly, S2J)

4.	How much time do you have available?
In college, if I'm in break then I have a lot more time. However in school I would probably be free only a day every weekend.

5.	Do you have the ability to run streams or upload videos?
No, however I think the only way I'll be able to playtest would be through Fly Amanita (who I think has a recording setup) so I think it will be okay

6.	Can you provide any video footage of you playing?
vs SFAT

So, I was watching streams of some put up by JCaesar, and I noticed something. A lot of new characters were playing against veteran high tiers, and they were winning about half of their matches. I feel that this game has the potential to be balanced in a way that no smash game thus far has, but it seems that these new chars shouldn't be winning this many matches, due to the lack of knowledge about their game. ZSS, for instance, was beating Falco, an established high tier who has a huge metagame to draw on. Same with Pit, Squirtle, Sonic, etc. I know that this game was designed with competitive play in mind so some ATs are by design and are known to the players. Even so, there hasn't been as much time to master these char's ATs or develop theory as there has been for melee powerhouses. My fear is that these chars will become OP and dominate. To be fair, Marth, Falco, etc. don't yet have a good MU to counter new contenders, but even so, this might be a problem. I'm probably wrong, I started following this project fairly recently. Thoughts?

What smash tournament experience do you have?: I have assisted to a lot of smash tourneys in the past 2 years (I dont place very well on Small tourneys) The biggest one i have assisted was 2011 National Tournament. Do you have the ability to run streams or upload videos?: Streaming???? I need to get a better computer and a better internet connection to do it. Videos?? yes, i bought a Capture Card some weeks ago, so i can upload P:M/Melee footage at anytime.
Can you provide any video footage of you playing?: As i said, i bought my capture card some weeks ago, so i havent uploaded Melee matches yet, and i only have a P:M demo video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8Vki4dAHys
Can you provide any video footage of you playing?: As i said, i bought my capture card some weeks ago, so i havent uploaded Melee matches yet, and i only have a P:M demo video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8Vki4dAHys

I have a video of a recent build of P:M, but its a private video (Obvious reasons, i dont want to have an hoards of desesperated fans begging for a download link). If you want to see it i can add you to the white list (Lucas match).

I can upload some Melee footage in the next days (To show how i really play, my Main is Falco).

1) What region do you live in?

Currently I live in Tallahassee Florida for school, and on breaks in Jupiter Florida.

2) What smash tournament experience do you have?
Smash and I have gone through multiple phases. At first, like anyone, I enjoyed the game in bliss to the actually amount of skill other players may posses back in early 2000's. I used to play endless hours back in middle school and early high school with my brother and a friend. Training to the point where we broke multiple controller. We then decided we would enter local tournaments and get to see the actually techniques and skill other players had. Smash had become part of our lives that will always be there. We many never have made it big like other players did, who were older at the time and thus understood more on the game, but we would win local tournaments around our area.

When brawl came on to the scene we instantly knew that it was extremely less competitive and geared towards more casual gamers. After that we began losing interest in smash and going to fewer tournaments. Then one day I entered my school's game lobby where I will occasionally witness a few smashers, and to my surprise saw them playing what looked like melee movesets, in brawl graphics, on a N-64 saffrion city stage. I proceeded to ask about what I had just seen to find out a mod to make brawl play like melee had just came out as a demo. I instantly sought after this demo and found Project M. I feel in love with it immediately and even brought my Wii up to school with me the next time around just to play at my leisure. I have then since introduced project M to many other smashers and we now play several hours a week. I am now attempting to set up a Project M demo tournament at my school. I might not be as great as a player as I once was, spending countless hours in front on final destination, but now I feel like we will be training more often and getting ready to really compete again in the future.

What other notable players do you frequently play with?

Up in Tallahassee I play a great assortment of players; any college town is this way. Most of the time Pipi will swing by a couple times a week to play a few hours. Also there is Binz, Hippo, and =) who are the more skilled frequent smashers. I have loads of other people that play the game with me but are not quite at the level where I consider them to use more advanced techniques. Also there are many smash clubs around my area where experienced players train. Back in Jupiter I have my brother Gman and my friend that I trained through those younger years with, Qwert. Honestly there isn't an end to the potential of players I might encounter in smash within the next few months.

How much time do you have available?
We play at locations where we can record about a few hours every week. I have been trying lately to get in more play time in my schedule. I have tuesday and thursday off this semester from classes, so i might be able to record a bunch of videos during that time.

Do you have the ability to run streams or upload videos?
Yes I do. I just recently got the dazzle just to set up a youtube channel to apply to project M. Running streams I can easily set up and my have a regular time on tuesday thursday where we play a few matches, otherwise we play kind of sporadically.

Can you provide any video footage of you playing?

I have my youtube channel:
http://www.youtube.com/user/MarthElite?feature=mhee
We may not be the best players as I've seen other applications as of late, but I CAN say that we will be playing enough to improve our skills over the next few months by a great deal. Maybe I can get my melee swagger back. Unfortunately I do not have any videos of us playing back in the good old days in melee as that was around ten years ago. Also I would by open to any comments on what techniques to practice as of now to improve our skills. We will be uploading more videos constantly throughout this time.

Side Note:
I'm not to sure if you need any C++/C# programmers, but I am well experienced in object oriented languages. I had produced several indie homebrew games for the Wii awhile back ago. I would love to help project M do as well as it can to bring back that competitive natural melee once had.

Hi PMBR,

I was a big fan of the character demonstration videos Happehlemons was putting out, and was disappointed to hear that he is no longer in contact with the Backroom. Because I have some video editing skills myself, I thought I might apply as a video editor. Because theres no application template for video editors, ill try to give you all the relevant information I can and if you need any more please let me know.

I have been editing video for about 6 years using professional grade software like Apple Final Cut Pro. I started in High School, and edited many videos for the local TV station in my town as well as local businesses and the local Chamber of Commerce. I'm currently a Junior studying Cinema Production at Ithaca College in Ithaca NY. At school, I was one of the primary editors for a semester on Game Over, a gaming culture show at our college that is broadcast over local public access TV. In addition to this, I've done a variety of personal video and film projects all which I have edited myself.

As for smash experience, I'm unfortunately not a particularly skilled competitive player but I have been playing smash casually since childhood and have access to all three smash games as well as Brawl mods. I have a cursory theoretical knowledge of competitive smash and would be willing to learn more, although ideally the main source of footage that requires skilled technical gameplay would be other Backroom members (not to say that I can't record footage at all, I will disclose my available equipment later in the application).

Here's a more detailed rundown of my experience that I use on my resume:

Windsor Community Television	2008-Present
Videographer/Editor- Shot and edited community events for public access network

Windsor Chamber of Commerce	July 2010-August 2010
Videographer/Editor- Shot and edited Chamber events and promotional videos for local businesses

Patton Media	July 2010-August 2010
Edited productions including a state political campaign video and New Haven Manufacturer’s association promotional video.

Megaphone Media Productions February 2011-May 2011
Member of a team working to produce videos for the Discovery Trail in Ithaca NY

ICTV- Game Over	September 2010-December 2010
Primary Editor-Ithaca College Television’s premiere geek culture show that reviews video games, toys and other geek products

NOLA Documentary Project	September 2010-December 2010
Edited documentary short promoting Audrey’s House, a club devoted to building homes in New Orleans LA

Ithacan Online Multimedia Team September 2009-December 2009
Shot and edited multiple videos for the Ithacan newspaper’s award winning website

Following are some samples of my work, unfortunately I don't have anything related to smash. If this is necessary for my application to be considered favorably let me know and I'll put something together:

Weird Al Yankovic fan music video
^
This is a video I edited for a school project in high school. I put it in because I think its a good example of my editing skills, particularly in the realm of editing to music.

Violence in Video games
^
A newslike piece I also did for a school project.

I don't necessarily think these videos necessarily comprise all of my best work so please, if you need me to upload additional examples or more directly Project:M/Smash related material let me know.

As for equipment and capabilities: I have a mac with the editing software I need. I also have bootcamp so I could easily run brawlbox/psa etc. if need be. I have an SD capture device that takes composite video as well as an HDPVR which can record 480p smash videos with component cables. However, the HDPVR isn't working correctly at the moment and I will probably have to get it fixed. I can upload videos on youtube as well as deliver to other Backroom members as nearly any format or even DVD by mail as needed.

As a sidenote I also have experience with animation both in 2D and basic 3D using software like Flash and Maya. If you need any of this work done I could probably expand my work for the project into this realm. (Unfortunately I'm not really familiar with Brawlbox or PSA but its not something I'd be opposed to learning.)

This month I am almost entirely free to dedicate time to the project but during most of the year I have school responsibilities. Even then I'd be able to dedicate a few hours a couple days a week at minimum to editing videos for Project M, with the exception of particularly strenuous times like finals week.

I would be grateful if the Backroom could review my application. I know you are committed to quality so please let me know if there is anything I could do to improve my chances.
