Well now, I've played Yoshi quite a lot in every smash bros game, maybe not enough to main him but enough to know what to ask for.

Mostly, I like him as is here in minus, but some alternate suggestions to make him more unique.


First, his egg throw move [up-b]
I like the flame eggs for if you tap the move, but what if you hold B while on the ground? I suggest this:

A crosshair appears at yoshi's location, and you can move it around, similar to the Dragoon crosshair (though maybe slower... and if possible make a different crosshair for the move...)

When you release the B button, Yoshi shoots an egg straight to the crosshair, exploding with a fireworks effect. It should explode if it hits something before the crosshair though.


For the second, is there any way you guys can make the tongue move able to rotate while doing it? like moving the control stick to make yoshi's head and tongue rotate around him or something, so the move can grab somewhere besides forward?

I'm told it would be a nightmare, looking in a recent Bowser topic here, but if it is possible it would make the move so much better, and of course more broken.


I had a third, but I think that those who master it (assuming someone is brave enough to program that...) would find Yoshi far too broken, even here.

Think the special flowers in Yoshi's story that turned you into an egg that could be slingshotted around (by simply moving the control stick in the opposite direction you wanted to move, then letting go, and could be done in the air) for a few seconds.


I fully realize these may be impossible, but I figured I'd ask anyways.

If that was possible, it would most likely be a pain in the butt to code and you would almost never be able to use the "target" system because you would most likely get hit before you fired.

AFAIK coding it is not possible and the rotation of the tongue would have to be made into a custom FitYoshiMotionEtc.pac

I think something similar to that 'could' be done if someone were to add character momentum into his sideB or aerial sideB.

The targeting thing was attempted before, and it just didn't look right at all. The concept isn't bad, there's just no way of really making it look good.

yoshi already can do this, its called pivot grabbing

and if you ment for neutral b he still can, its called b stick reversing

Gangstakirby, perhaps I misworded, I mean able to aim somewhere besides left/right. As in being able to point the tongue above and below him... as well as diagonal (you know, those extra 358 degrees around yoshi?)

And for the others, Yeah, I realized that even if they could be done they'd likely be a pain to make, though I am surprised the targeting was already tried before. If it doesn't work well, it doesn't work well I suppose.

As for the "character momentum" to the side-b, I really think you guys should try it, if you can make it work. Honestly it would be really cool if you can. (not to mention the one I thought was least doable appears to be most doable out of all of them...)

well im certain grab hitboxes can be placed anywhere.. so maybe if someone gets creative with using different animations/subanimations its plausible.

but yoshi really is broken as it is, he can zero to death with his projectile alone almost

Crystalorbie, I don't mean to be harsh or anything, but I don't think you understand how much trouble it would be to fix it like that. You might already know this, but just in case I'll explain why.

Yoshi's tongue animation is simple. It goes straight in front of him. Therefore, it is easy to say "place the hit box straight in front of him". However, your idea would require not only a moving hit box depending on where the player is pointing, but also a code to move the bones controlling Yoshi's neck and head to follow the direction you are pointing.

It's not as simple as switching numbers and variables which is arguably 80-90% of all Brawl- is. Your asking for an entirely new code and new animations which would be...more than what normal hackers are willing to do.

It would be cool, good ol Yoshi Story days were great. But the closest you would ever get is a static animation where just his tongue moves, similar to Shiek's chain, and even that would still take a chunk of work.

I want yoshis grab to be like his tounge is in New Super Mario Bros Wii. It's fast, and it's long. Maybe making it longer would be difficult, but we could speed it up to at least x2.

Yeah, I can understand that, Shade.

Thats why I mentioned its probably impossible, but I figured I'd ask anyways since I don't know really anything about hacking, and you never know, someone might have found a way to implement it.

But since Rkey has another suggestion which seems (again, I know nothing of how easy it would be to implement) much more accessible, I think my suggestion for Yoshi's tongue should be dropped, unless someone gets REALLY bored with life.

Oh, one last thing, maybe my perspective is skewed from memories, but that was not harsh at all. Just saying...

Everything you suggested would be beyond a pain to code, if possible at all. The only plausible one is the last, but honestly, it sounds like too much work for too little gain

After reading this I'm pretty sure that this would be near impossible to do, but I've always felt like Yoshi SHOULD be able to use his tongue as a tether recovery. It would be funny and useful. Just throwin it out there.

cant even lie, it would be a legit method of tethering, but itd be hard to code probably... maybe make it so that when his tongue hits a wall his body gets pulled to it? this is more plausible then making a tether

I like that idea! But would be be useful at all unless there was a way to make his tongue longer. Either way it would still be pretty funny
