Standard install method
(This assumes that you already have homebrew installed on your wii. If you don't have the Homebrew Channel, you should either use the non-homebrew method below, or check out this wiibrew guide for setting it up)Step 1: Download the Brawl- official release from the download page.
Step 2: Copy the file structure onto your SD card. The folders Codes and Private, along with the gameconfig.txt file should be in the root of your SD card. If you do not already have it, create a folder in your SD card root named "apps", then download Gecko OS 1.9.3.1 and place the gecko OS folder in apps.
Step 3: Go to the homebrew channel, run gecko OS, launch game. Codes should apply, and then you're playing Brawl Minus.
Stack Smash Install Method
This only works for NTSC games. Sorry PAL.Step 1: same as step 1 above.
Step 2: Copy the file structure onto your SD card. Then, download this GCT, rename it to RSBE01.gct, and replace the old one in /codes with it (rename it to RSBE01.gct obviously).
Step 3: Download Gecko OS 1.9.3.1, and instead of putting it in apps, put the boot.elf file in your SD card root.
Step 4: Download the stack smash stage. Go to /private/wii/app/RSBE/st/, and remove all stages in there - copy them to your computer if you want to keep them saved. Then, put the stack smash stage in that folder.
Step 5: Launch the game normally. Then, go to the stage manager. You should get a very weird screen, and then it should jump to Gecko OS. Launch game as if through the HBC method.
If you are a PAL user
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAI pity you guys. I really do. In fact, I was a PAL user up until about 4 weeks ago. It's rough, I know.
Step 1: Follow steps 1 and 2 in the normal install method. If you don't have the HBC, you're SOL. Go get it.
Step 2: Do you have an NTSC disk? If yes, follow step three. If you have no color, go to the gecko OS options and select "Force PAL60" or "Force PAL50" (PAL50 worked for me; it will flicker; go to the deflicker option in the brawl game, and select it to make the flickering stop. It will also just randomly slow down sometimes on startup. If it does this, restart your wii and try again). If you don't, go to step 3.
Step 3: Download this GCT, name it RSBP01.gct, and put it in codes. Go to /private/wii/app/RSBE and rename RSBE to RSBP. Then, go to /private/wii/app/RSBP/pf/system and remove or rename the common3.pac file. This has not been ported yet. We're still working on a PAL release.
Technically, we should have someone working on porting the .pacs for a PAL release. This person, Rkey, got lazy and decided to put it off. Like I've been putting off making changelists. Ugh. There will be no/glitchy character sound, but it works, more or less, gameplay-wise. Enjoy.
To all of you: happy slaughtering with broken chars. :3
