It sucks. It's almost never used, because it sucks so much. It should really have some niche use or something.
I think it should have:
Less startup and end time
It should Trip
Should be more maneuverable
When I say less startup time, I mean it should come out already in your control instead of
1. Unravel
2. Fall
3. Finally let you swing it around with the speed of Stephen Hawking in melted cheese
Hopefully Doom will post some suggestions and this thread will be deleted. What do people think about the chain?
Shiek is already OP. Nerfs have to be put in place before the topic of buffing her is addressed. Right now, it's a recovery option, it doesn't need to be an attack.
But it could be an attack.
I agree with filbert. Barring the fact that Sheik can use some nerfs, I would love to see the whip being somewhat more useful. If we reduced the amount of endlag, that might fix some things.
Take Project M's current chain and add SSI. Man that stream was awesome.
make it 2x longer, or have it do the chain jacket glitch automaticly, where it takes the hitboxes of the last performed attack before the chain, the chain jacket glitch has alot of depth in it from research on smashboards like doing an UP-B then doing the glitch (jacketing the UP-B) gives the whip wind hit boxes/knock-back propierties beyond the whips length and stuff.
ps: a 2x longer whip just feels like Brawl-'ie to me
It is not possible to do the chain jacket glitch automatically because no one knows how it works, it is a glitch in brawl.
Hence chain jacket glitch.
The thing about making her chain an attack is that it wouldn't really make her very much better. It would only be useful in some MOs and situations. Really, having a whole B move only be useful as a tether is kind of worthless.
The chain jacket glitch is undesirable because it can crash the game. If possible, it should be disabled (don't know how though...)

You need to stop. Shiek hits wih Upsmash, then camps jacket? do you want to HAVE ANY FUN AT ALL EVER?

Shiek has edguading uses against some characters, but it being a tether is a good thing. Shit, in melee, it had basically NO use, and everyone said: MAN THIS SHOULD BE A TETHER WTF.
Now we get it and kids still complain.
something "like" the chain jacket glitch, doesnt have to be the exact thing. and by 2x longer whip i mean 1.5x O_<
The thing about breaking characters is that if all of his moves are good but one, it doesn't make him very much better by improving the bad option. If it is never used in the first place, having it be better (as long as it is not too good) would not improve him that much. I really like my idea.
it would be a decent ranged weapon, plus with tripping it would be a cool combo set up. The problem with the chain jacket (aside from glitching the game) is that it's just a gimmick. It would get old, and as DMB pointed out, it would be OP. With my idea, it's another gun in the arsenal, pull it out when you need it. The coolest characters are the ones where each move has it's own utility and none are completely overpowering (Sheiks Up-B, Ness' PK Fire). With Captain Falcon, every move is viable in some situation. With Sheik, no one with a brain would use Side-B on purpose. Unless they are playing DDD or Donkey Kong and are already up several stock/really really don't care about winning.
Or playing ganondorf and they're on a ledge...
Owait
Make it a ****ing laser beam and have it shoot across the stage.
Or, alternatively, make it a REAL tether, and make it grab people.
I really think it should trip. It just seems like it should. Then, in order to make it useful after tripping, it should have very little endlag. Also, it has to be more maneuverable. Right now, it's insanely slow.
Sheik's chain right now is like a rubber chicken. It's funny when you hit someone with it, but it's also really stupid and worthless.
Ness's pk fire is broken. But for how long? :X
And the chain is good for a quick recovery, since upb is easily guarded, and baited into bad situations.
I'm not much a sheik user, but I do say on the odd time I do use her a little extensively the chain is a move I leave untouched.... increase maneuverability, speed and all that plus trip sounds really decent imo... and howabout while it's coming out, it works like a grab like I saw suggested a little bit back? it'd be fun to be able to whip it out and spin it around like on of those castlevania dudes do to edge guard people by slapping em with it. lol or to have it on a high enough priority to defend against tiny projectiles. not big ones, just lasers, scopegun shots if they're ever used etc. nothing bigger than a quarter charged charge shot though.
but it should only grab while it's coming out if that's done. let it get em while it's still out would just be annoying. that's where the light damaging tripboxes would be good. and when she brings it in, maybe it can trip them towards you, so it's like one of those super ninja whips. lol
Yes, the chain is good for a quick recovery, but why not anything else. I completely agree that Sheik is a top character. Just because one of her moves is getting a buff, that doesn't mean that she will become very much better. It would occasionally give her one more option.
Right now she has a great combo game and can spam her projectile against slower characters who are controlled by people who suck. She is impossible to read well and that unpredictability is what gives her an edge. The chain is slow, it's weak, it's easy to dodge. Boosting that would not improve her very much, and there is no reason not to.

yeah, thats basically the only thing it's good at with me most of the time, unless I'm just stuffing around lol. We need fairness with move usability not just fighting, cause wasn't there something about brawl minus being a game where all moves are viable at certain times in certain occasions? heh...
Combo's check, projectile spam, yup, been on the receiving end of that (-.-). Hard to read indeed, except a fair guess usually does the trick while she's invisible. and yup yup yup, so indeed, I agree it may not make her uberly more greater, but there's absolutely no reason I can think up off the top of my head why it shouldn't be given atleast a hint of minusy flair.

Castlevania the beST, the whip human guy ones were okay but Symphony of the night where your Alucard was the best game ever, with all the cool moves youde learn and morphs and everything else.
yeah have it reflect projectiles for real, case closed.
edit: how about if the exact tip of the chain hitbox(the tip does electric damage) hits the projectile it gets reflected, and possibly the rest of the chain just destroys the projectile (tip=reflects, rest=destroys) and ofcourse this would be for weak projectiles
